How your website is built and hosted on GitHub Pages

Free For Charity builds and hosts your charity website for free on GitHub Pages, validated first on its free GitHub Pages address, then served on your own Cloudflare-managed domain.

How it works

  • A volunteer developer sets up your site from one of our two open-source templates — the complete Single Page site (most charities), or the Footer-Only template that adds the FFC footer and compliance layer to a website you already have and love.
  • Your site goes live and is validated on its free GitHub Pages address — then we purchase your domain and point it at the validated site with HTTPS.
  • Your site is fast, secure static hosting — no servers, plugins, or updates for you to manage.

Once it is live, any content or design change is just a support ticket away. A validated live website is the prerequisite for the domain purchase, and the domain is the prerequisite for nonprofit email. Learn more on our web hosting page.
